Devolution
In 1998 Wales was granted certain law-making powers by the UK government (devolution). It elected its own Assembly Members (AMs) in 1999. In 2006 the new building of the Senedd was completed in Cardiff Bay to house the 60 AMs. The largest political party in the Senedd is Labour with Plaid Cymru the main opposition party.
